Our approach

Recruiting for substations and grid construction

Substation and T&D work can require close coordination between civil preparation, structures, electrical installation, owner procedures and planned work windows. We clarify which scope the hire will lead and how responsibilities connect with engineers, field teams and utility stakeholders.

Our approach

Project and field roles for T&D teams

We recruit Project Managers, Superintendents, Project Engineers, Estimators, General Foremen, schedulers and construction leaders. Searches can distinguish substation construction from transmission line or distribution work when candidates need direct experience with the assignment.

Our approach

Assess project interfaces and documentation

Candidate conversations cover owner coordination, sequence planning, site access, subcontractor management, quality records and experience working with protection and control teams where relevant. Required training or technical credentials are confirmed for the specific employer and project.

Our approach

Local and traveling T&D candidates

We have a strong candidate network in every market we cover and reach beyond local boundaries for travel roles. We can consider local candidates willing to travel 100% and nationwide candidates willing to travel 100%, with the assignment terms discussed up front.

Good questions

Frequently asked questions.

Which substation and T&D searches do you handle?

We recruit for construction teams working on substations, transmission and distribution projects. We define the role by its system scope and the part of project delivery it owns.

What substation and transmission roles can you fill?

We recruit Project Managers, Superintendents, Project Engineers, Estimators, Foremen and project controls professionals. Searches can include protection and control or senior leadership roles when specified.

How do you evaluate a T&D candidate's experience?

We ask which utility scopes and project phases the candidate has handled and what they were responsible for. Owner coordination, team interfaces and field documentation are discussed where relevant.

Can you recruit traveling substation staff?

Yes. We can approach local candidates willing to travel 100% and nationwide candidates willing to travel 100%. We confirm travel expectations and project assignment details before presenting candidates.

Are protection and control credentials required for every T&D hire?

Requirements depend on the opening and its technical responsibilities. We confirm the employer's stated qualifications and do not apply one credential standard to every construction position.

How are recruiting fees set for T&D searches?

No professional recruiting fee is due unless we place a candidate you hire. The signed recruiting agreement sets the applicable terms.

Relocation and travel

Relocation Placements

Over the last few years we've filled more and more positions with candidates willing to relocate on their own, or with minimal initial relocation help from the client. We always fill with local candidates when possible. But relocation placements are a specialty of ours, and we know how to make them work for clients who are committed to filling the position.

Placement protection

12-month replacement guarantee

On standard (non-reduced) fee agreements, every placement comes with a 3-month free candidate replacement guarantee. From months 4 to 12, we'll still replace the candidate at half off. That's a full year of coverage. We've never needed to use the extended guarantee.

Extended coverage applies to eligible placements billed and paid at the full standard fee under the signed client recruiting agreement.

Three-Month Free Replacement

If a placement billed and paid at the full standard fee separates for a qualifying reason within the first three months, Construction Headhunters will conduct one replacement search for the same or substantially similar position at no additional professional recruiting fee.

Months Four Through Twelve: Half-Fee Replacement

If the hire separates during months four through twelve, the client receives one replacement at half the standard professional fee. Applies only to original placements billed and paid at the full standard fee.

Eligibility, exclusions, notification requirements, payment requirements, and replacement terms are governed by the signed client recruiting agreement.
